Carers Support

If you are a carer please let us know at Cornerways. We recommend you register as a carer with ‘Carers Support West Sussex’ (CSWS) you can do this here: https://www.carerssupport.org.uk/carer-registrations/

Carers Support helps people living in West Sussex and those who are caring for a person that lives in West Sussex, even if their carer does not.

Carer Assessments

You do not need to be registered with Carers Support to undergo a Statutory Carer Assessment, as this assessment is conducted on behalf of West Sussex County Council and is related to Adult Services. The purpose of a Carers Assessment is to determine what help and support can be provided to you, which may include access to equipment or services offered by the council. Find out about carer assessments here: https://www.carerssupport.org.uk/carer-assessments/

Toolkits

Check out the carers toolkit for more information and help with benefits, technology, dementia, suicide awareness and prevention, bereavement, looking after yourself and more. https://www.carerssupport.org.uk/carers-toolkits/

Carer Emergency Contact Card and Carer Discount Card

The well-being of someone who depends on you can be a source of worry, especially if you were to experience an accident or sudden illness. The Carer Emergency Contact Card (CECC) should give you some peace of mind. Apply for one here: https://www.carerssupport.org.uk/carer-emergency-contact-card/

Carers Contingency Planning

As Carers we like to think that we will always be there when needed but sometimes this is not possible. A Carers Contingency Plan is there so that the person you are caring for is supported at the earliest opportunity and you have peace of mind that there is something in place. Please take time to make a contingency plan and please do share it with us at Cornerways so we can help if the time comes. You can do this here: https://www.carerssupport.org.uk/contingency-planning/

Hospital Admission Support

If the person you care for goes into hospital, CSWS can meet carers within the hospital setting and offer assistance to prevent carer breakdown. They also support the safe discharge process for both the carer and patient, helping you navigate the hospital systems, ensuring you feel fully included in the discharge planning process. Their aim is to provide you with access to all the support available, tailored to meet your individual needs. To find out more and access this support look here: https://www.carerssupport.org.uk/hospital-admission-support/

Rest and Respite for Carers

As a Carer, it is vitally important that you take time for yourself, to look after your own health and wellbeing. One way of doing this is to make sure you get opportunities to relax and de-stress. Being able to recharge your batteries is an important part of most people’s lives, and is especially important for carers, who can feel isolated as well as experience back pain, stress and other conditions as a result of their caring role. Find out how CSWS can help you achieve this here: https://www.carerssupport.org.uk/rest-and-respite/

Counselling for Carers

The role of a carer can be an emotional journey. Caring for yourself can feel down the end of your list of tasks but is very important to ensure that your wellbeing is considered, to enable you to continue in your caring role. Talking therapies can help and there are a few options available here: https://www.carerssupport.org.uk/counselling-service/
