Urgent appointments

Non-urgent advice: Urgent Appointments Information

Cornerways has an ethos of trying to meet all requests for appointments on the day. However, sometimes we have unpredictable surges in demand and all appointments are full (typically 50 appointments per doctor in a normal working day to become full). In such scenarios, we ask the reception team to triage your appointment request by asking the following.

If you answer that you do require an urgent appointment on the day, you will be given one, regardless of how busy we are. Please remember we are a small surgery providing a personal service and can’t spread demand out between colleagues, and in this regard it’s extremely useful to reserve use of urgent appointments for when required.

Routine appointments

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use the information you give us to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or health professional to help you.

We do NOT provide appointments via Email.

Dr Sayers has appointments available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Dr Romans has appointments available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday

If work/caring responsibilities prevent you from accessing a daytime appointment, you can ask for a Monday evening appointment. This is a limited extra service for your convenience.

Do you need to see the doctor?

To ensure doctor appointments are used effectively we ask that you use your local pharmacy for advice for common ailments such as symptomatic relief of colds and coughs.

A full list of conditions your pharmacy can help with is available here:
https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/pharmacies/how-pharmacies-can-help

You can often treat a cold without seeing a GP. You should begin to feel better in about 1 to 2 weeks. There are some conditions that are an exception, check the following information before calling for an appointment.
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/common-cold

We have a pharmacist available to help with prescription queries made via reception or online consulation.

If you need help when we are closed

An urgent enquiry line (on call rota) remains open until 6.30pm on weekdays (01903 247740).

After 6.30pm and before 8am call 111 for urgent, non-emergency help.

If you need medical help when we are closed and the patient is over aged 5 you can use NHS 111 online or call 111.

Call NHS 111 if the patient is under 5 (do not use NHS111online)

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

Access to Appointments

If you need help with your appointment, please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

If you are housebound and need an appointment, we will do a home visit. We will phone you first to understand what you need.

Requests for home visits should be made as early in the day as possible, usually before 10.30am. The doctor will decide if a home visit is appropriate or whether it would be better for you to attend the surgery, where there are more suitable facilities and equipment.

Home visits are very time consuming and the doctor may telephone back to discuss requests for a visit. Lack of transport is not a valid reason for a home visit and sick children should almost always be brought to the surgery.
